So you’ve decided to fundraise for Be The Match… THANK YOU! You are making a difference in the lives of our patients. Every little bit you raise will help us reach our $50,000 February goal—and save more lives.

When you fundraise, you add more people to the Be The Match Registry®, fund further research to improve racial disparity and provide funds for patient financial assistance. And, you can win prizes along the way!

STEPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER:

1. Set Your Fundraising Goal

Choose a goal that’s right for you. No matter how much you raise, you are making a positive impact. Here are some numbers to help determine how much you would like to raise:

  • $120 covers the cost to add one potential marrow donor to the Be The Match Registry, giving more searching patients hope for a cure.

  • $500 secures one week of temporary housing during transplant recovery. If patients live more than an hour away from the transplant center, they are required to relocate and live nearby for the three to six months of recovery. Many families spend up to $2,000 a month on temporary housing, often while also paying housing expenses back home.

  • $2,000 covers one transplant recovery grants awarded to help families with uninsured and ongoing costs after transplant. Accompanied by their caregiver, patients often remain in the hospital for three to six months as they heal. Transplant Recovery Grants reduce financial stress so families can focus on recovery.

2. Personalize Your Page

Adding personal touches to your fundraising page, such as a photo or story, helps your donors connect with your mission. Make sure to share your personal story explaining why you are passionate about raising funds for Be The Match. Your community of supporters will feel compelled to give because you’ve asked them to.

3. Make a Donation to Your Own Page

Kickstart the momentum by making a donation to your goal. No matter the size of the donation, it’ll show your network that you’re committed - and can also help you feel more comfortable asking others since you have already contributed.

4. Spread the Word!

  • Send a text to your friends and family! Tap those closest to you to secure those first few donations. It’s always nice to get some quick wins when you begin fundraising!

  • Share on social media – you never know who may have a personal connection to your cause!

    • Here’s an example of what to post:
“I'm raising money for Be The Match® to help patients like Ruby find their cure. We all have the power to make a difference for our communities and cultures. Please help me reach my goal if you can. By working together, we can save lives. [INSERT YOUR PAGE LINK]"

  • Send emails to your network encouraging them to join your efforts and contribute. Make sure to follow up with a reminder email! On average it takes between 3-5 touchpoints to get someone to donate - people are busy and one email is typically not enough.

Here are some Key Messages to help you get started:

  • You probably know someone who’s been affected by blood cancer like leukemia or a blood disease like sickle cell. But did you know there’s a cure? A bone marrow transplant.

  • Seventy percent of patients don’t have a suitable donor match in their family, so they depend on Be The Match to find a volunteer unrelated marrow donor.

  • Be The Match connects patients with their donor match for a life-changing bone marrow transplant and a second chance at life—providing support every step along the transplant journey.

  • Your donation in any amount helps to add more potential life-saving marrow donors to the registry, cover uninsured transplant costs for patients in need and support groundbreaking transplant research.

  • Your gift of $25 can cover one clinic visit co-pay for a marrow transplant patient. $120 covers the cost to add a potential life-saving donor to the Be The Match Registry®. And $300 provides tools and support for a research scientist to pursue new discoveries to prevent and treat post-transplant complications.

  • We all have the power to make a difference. By working together, we can save lives. Please help me champion my community by donating to my fundraiser for Be The Match®.

5. Share Your Success
