This very popular and challenging 10-day route offers spectacular scenery along the Pacific Coast from the mountainous coast of Central California to the sandy beaches of Southern California on the coastal roads. The biggest challenge comes on day 4 in the Big Sur area with long steep climbs and amazing views.
Day 4 is 84 miles with a total of 7,800 ft. of climbing. The ride flattens out as it progresses south to Los Angeles and San Diego. This southern section includes some riding along the beach (on paved roads and paths), some urban riding in LA and San Diego, and a van ride through Camp Pendleton, which is closed to cyclists. Riders should be familiar and comfortable with riding on two lane roads with traffic, climbing and descending on big hills, and urban riding in traffic. There will be van SAG support to transport luggage, provide water and snacks at rest stops, provide help with routine repairs, and provide transportation when needed.
You can look at the route for each day with RidewithGPS.com, which can be downloaded and installed free of charge. The maps offer Google Maps functionality on your computer, including street view, satellite images, etc. Below are the links for the daily routes. NOTE: the street view is not always current and may show construction that has been completed or not show current road construction.
All routes are subject to change as we continue to plan for safety and transplant center involvement.
